Since late 2022, the Crypto Breadth Engine [alex975] has shown a widening divergence between total market capitalization and the actual participation of the broader crypto market.
The two weekly charts below illustrate the difference:
- The upper chart measures the Top 40 cryptocurrencies excluding BTC and ETH.
- The lower chart includes them.
When BTC and ETH are part of the basket, the Breadth Line (black) appears smoother and stronger, reflecting their dominant weight — together they represent more than 70 % of total market capitalization.
When excluded, the indicator becomes more reactive and clearly reveals that altcoins have largely stopped participating in the uptrend that began in 2023.
This visual divergence highlights how the market’s growth has been concentrated mainly in Bitcoin and Ethereum, while the rest of the crypto sector remains structurally weaker.
That’s exactly what market breadth analysis is designed to reveal — not just price direction, but how many assets truly contribute to the trend.

Nei due grafici settimanali:
- quello superiore mostra le 40 principali crypto escludendo BTC ed ETH,
- quello inferiore le include.
Quando BTC ed ETH sono nel paniere, la linea nera (Breadth Line) risulta più stabile e sostenuta, riflettendo il loro peso dominante — insieme valgono oltre il 70% della capitalizzazione totale.
Quando vengono escluse, l’indicatore diventa più reattivo e mette in evidenza come le altcoin abbiano smesso di partecipare alla fase rialzista iniziata nel 2023.
Questa divergenza visiva mostra come la crescita del mercato sia concentrata principalmente su Bitcoin ed Ethereum, mentre il resto del settore rimane strutturalmente debole.
