With large fluctuations in price, raw premium (derivs price -- spot price Δ) may lose some relevance. A premium of say, $30, which used to be quite large, may no longer be a significant sum in terms of % of price. This is where a Relative Premium comes in: Relative Premium takes the raw premium and calculates it as a percentage of current spot price. Presumably, this method of visualizing premium will scale better with large price fluctuation.
