Communications-services companies rose amid deal speculation.

Warner Bros. Discovery continued to gain amid anticipation that Skydance Paramount would acquire the owner of HBO and the Warner Bros. movie studio in a multibillion-dollar deal.

Paramount shares rose, too, as analysts at research firm Benchmark said amended Federal Communications Commission rules about ownership of broadcasters mean that the risky deal would likely receive regulators' approval.
