Jio will continue to bring new-age technologies and enhance lives of Indians, says Akash Ambani

Reliance Jio Infocomm Chairman Akash Ambani said the company plans to take its technology global after deploying it at scale across India in telecom, broadband, and new products such as JioAICloud and JioPC.

"Jio has proudly served over 500 million subscribers, addressing multiple digital needs of their everyday life. This has been possible due to Jio's Deep-Tech initiatives, which have sparked India's technological revolution and have become the backbone of our Prime Minister's Digital India Mission," Akash Ambani said in a statement. "Jio will continue to bring new-age technologies and enhance the lives of every Indian citizen. Jio has successfully delivered its indigenous technology stack at India scale and is now set to take our homegrown technology around the world".

During the quarter, Jio reported crossing the 500 million users mark, and reported an improvement in the average revenue per user (ARPU) to Rs 211.4, from Rs 208.8 in the preceding June quarter. The management attributed the ARPU growth to a shift to higher-priced plans and increased data usage. Data traffic grew by nearly 30 percent from a year earlier to 58.4 billion GB, with voice traffic also growing in the same period.

In a briefing after the Q2 results, Anshuman Thakur, senior vice president of Jio Platforms, also noted customer addition into its True5G network, noting that 5G users receive significantly higher data speeds. He added that the company is working with mobile phone makers to bring more devices with 4G and 5G services.

"Rural sites saw 2.2x growth in 5G site traffic compared to pan-India growth of 2x. We are working on bringing more devices. We have done partnerships with OEMs to bring more devices in 4G and 5G," Thakur said in the briefing. He added that JioFrames, the company's smart glasses product, is expected to hit the market soon.

Thakur said that the company has managed to add a million users per month in the broadband category, which includes JioFiber and JioAirFiber, and has also rolled out speeds of 1 Gbps (gigabits per second) throughout the day.

Thakur said that besides home and domestic users, many enterprises are also seeking multiple solutions from Jio Platforms, including JioAICloud and JioPC, which includes an office solutions suite, for applications ranging from security to operations.

Some of its external partnerships to build AI-driven solutions, such as with Meta Platforms, aim to develop more enterprise services, Thakur said.
