Ukraine steel output down 7% so far in 2025, union says

Ukraine's steel output fell 7% in the first seven months of 2025 to 4.26 million metric tons, data from the Ukrainian steel producers' union showed on Thursday.

Steel production has suffered since Russia invaded the country in February 2022, with two large steel plants destroyed during the subsequent conflict and now located in occupied territory.

Ukraine, formerly a leading steel producer and exporter, reported a 70.7% drop in output in 2022 to 6.3 million tons. It fell to 6 million tons in 2023 but increased to 7.58 million tons last year.
