Corn, soybean bids flat to down at processors, river terminals
Basis bids for corn and soybeans were steady to lower at processors and river terminals in a spot check of locations in the U.S. Midwest on Thursday, with farmers clearing space for what are expected to be large crops.
The corn basis fell 2 cents at a processor in Decatur, Illinois and a river terminal in Davenport, Iowa.
The soybean basis dropped 5 cents at a processor in Lafayette, Indiana and another in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Farmers are busy clearing their bins of old crop corn ahead of the new crop harvest, according to analysts.
Weekly U.S. export sales, reported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Thursday, showed wheat, corn and soybean volumes above market estimates.
The U.S. is expected to produce bumper corn and soy harvests later in the year. Analysts polled by Reuters think the U.S. Department of Agriculture will raise its estimates in a monthly report due on August 12.
As of 12:04 p.m. CST (1704 GMT) CBOT September corn futures (CU25) were up 5-3/4 cents at $3.85-1/2 a bushel and new-crop December corn (CZ25) was up 6-1/2 cents at $4.07-3/4 a bushel.
CBOT August soybeans (SQ25) rose 8-1/4 cents to $9.69-3/4 a bushel and the new-crop November contract (SX25) was up 8-1/2 cents at $9.74.
