Mauritius Inflation Rate Eases for 4th Month

The annual inflation rate in Mauritius softened for the 4th straight month to 8.3% in April 2023, from 9.1% in the previous month.

It marks the lowest reading since January 2022, amid slower increases in prices of food & non-alcoholic beverages (6% vs 7.3% in March); transportation (11% vs 13.7%); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (11.3% vs 12%) and hosing & utilities (17% vs 18.1%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices were down by 0.1% in April, after increasing by 0.5% in the prior month.
