Mauritius Inflation Quickens to 8-Month High of 6.2%
The annual inflation rate in Mauritius rose for the second month to hit 6.2% in February 2024, the highest in eight months, up from 5.2% in the prior month.
Main upward pressure came from prices of food & non-alcoholic beverages (15.2% vs 9.5% in January); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (9.2% vs 10%); health (5.6%, the same as in January); restaurants & hotels (5.2% vs 4.9%) and miscellaneous goods & services (4.2% vs 2.9%).
On a monthly basis, consumer prices advanced by 2.5% in February, after a 2.4% rise in the prior month.
