The Market Meanness Index was created by Johann Christian Lotter and I added some smoothing of my own, so feel free to try it without any smoothing to see the differences. This indicator relies on the mean reversion theory that all prices will eventually revert to the mean over a long period of time. Obviously there is more to the theory but the basic idea is if you plot a sma or other typical moving average, you will see the price moving up or below the long term moving average such as a 200 day sma but usually heads back to the average in the short term. This is a good statistical analysis used for volatility which is where this indicator comes in. Simply put, we calculate volatility based on how often a price is both above the median and above the previous price or vice versa.
A rising Market Meanness Index means that the market is becoming more volatile and that there is a high likelihood of a change in the underlying trend. A falling Market Meanness Index means that the current trend is dying and there is a high likelihood of a trend reversal. Typically I put general buy and sell signals in red or green but in this particular case, this indicator works best as a overall trend filter and you would want to place a trade when this indicator has a peak or valley. Let me know if you find a good overall buy and sell signal system of course.
I know I keep saying that I will get active again and post more indicators but life is very hectic for me. For those who have been following my updates, my twins were finally born a little over a month ago and as you can imagine, they keep me up at all hours of the day so it is hard to create new indicator scripts when I'm getting no sleep lol. Hey my friend. Congratulations. Kids were the best thing that has every happened to me. They for sure saved my life. Don't know if this is your first but I'll drop this little nugget regardless. Take a time....ANY time....like putting to bed, or reading a story (read to them EVERY night)...or even bath time. Make that YOUR time with them. Let that always be "Yall's time" so that your wife knows FOR CERTAIN that she can count on a CONSISTENT break every day at a certain time. and for you, those kids will remember for the rest of their lives and say, "My daddy ALWAYS put us to bed and/or read us a story EVERY night.", etc. Lastly, if I may, do something that SO few dads do.....look up some youtube videos on the best/quickest/most efficient way to change diapers(especially with the wiping...as being able to do a pooper with 1-2 wipes vs like 6-10 saves SOOO much time in the end. Exponentially with twins. I have 2 boys 13 mo apart and got out of diapers at the same time so I know it wont be easy...but its doable. Heres a good starting point, start off with the new diaper under the old one before you even break open the hatchet)...and heres the kicker, ALWAYS...and when I say always...I mean ALWAYS jump up and try to be the one to change the diapers first. Dont even tell your ol lady about your intentions. This will strengthen yall's relationship immensely. More than you could imagine. She gets to see you trying your hardest to give her a break as much in any little ways that you can to show her what she means to you and just maybe she will in turn give you some well deserved breaks/man time/get out of jail free cards (if youve got yourself a good one at least) and it will be CEMENTED in her head that no matter what...YOU have got HER back. @chasinalts, Thank you very much! I'm following around half of these rules already but I do need to be more proactive about changing diapers. I also need to work on my technique as well since it takes me much longer than my wife.
