U.S. stocks were higher, with the Dow Jones index gaining more than 1% on Thursday.

Shares of International Business Machines Corporation IBM rose during Thursday's session following strong quarterly earnings.

IBM reported quarterly earnings of $2.43 per share, which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $2.19. Quarterly sales clocked in at $15.8 billion, which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $15.616 billion.

IBM shares gained 6.4% to $195.75 on Thursday.
